Hi Friends,

AFREADA turns 10 next year! I honestly can’t believe it. I’m so proud of our journey, but I’m also a bit devastated — because admitting to running something for ten years makes me feel more like an aunty, and less like the ‘baby girl’ I’ve always claimed to be.

Devastation aside, we’ve been reflecting on our plans for the anniversary year, and I feel like we’re the closest we’ve ever been to the original vision I had when I scribbled ‘I want to start an African literary magazine’ in my notebook back in 2014. Our plan is ambitious yet refreshingly simple, and we’ll be sharing more in October.

But for now, I just wanted to let you know that we’ll be taking a short break from everything — including newsletters and socials — as we focus all our efforts on bringing this idea to life.

We’re currently speaking to partners who might be interested in supporting our vision, so if you know any organisations that might want to collaborate on a landmark literary project that will connect our continent through stories, holla at your girl. :)
